A Producer’s Perspective

PRODUCING YOUR WAY TO SUCCESS IN THE MOTION PICTURE & TELEVISION INDUSTRY

Robert (Bobby) Galinsky

Welcome to the REAL WORLD of what it takes to make it happen in Hollywood and here at home.

A 9 week course taking you from dreamer to schemer!

The course will present an experienced producer’s guide to turning your career as a writer, actor, or director into high gear by taking charge as a producer.  If you already know you want to produce, or never even thought about it, it’s the ‘new Hollywood route’ to success.

Even the most powerful actors and directors in Hollywood still answer to the producer (think Charlie Sheen vs. Chuck Lorre most recently).   It’s the producer’s project, full stop.   And whether you’re producing a low-budget feature just to get your own directorial or acting skills out there without waiting for ‘that phone call’ that may never come, or whether you’re hell-bent on raising big capital for huge international projects, this comprehensive hands-on 9 week course will tell you the who, what, when, where and why from someone who overcame potential disasters from every angle to raise almost $4m and produce a successful project against all odds, and is now about to unveil one of the largest privately funded ($40m) projects in Australian history.

Robert Lewis  “Bobby” Galinsky grew up in the United States and has over 30 years experience in successful screenwriting, producing, advertising, licensing, and marketing from TV series to feature films to consumer products with the Walt Disney Company.    Now an Australian citizen and Melbourne resident, he has guest lectured at RMIT, Deakin, the Actors’ Nest, and brought Hollywood superstar coach John Truby to Australia for his one and only tours to Sydney and Melbourne.  He produced the controversial and successful motion picture PREY (www.prey-thefilm.com) and has written and is one of the producers of the highly anticipated feature film DUST AND GLORY (www.dustandglory.com) which beings production later this year.   He co-created a US TV series and two Aussie TV series which are in development, including one which crashed and burned spectacularly on the eve of production and is itching to share with you what works and as well as what kills productions here and overseas.

What are students saying?

Who this course is for:

Actors:   Learn the secrets of what producers expect and want or how to control your career so you are not at the beck and call of other people

Writers:  Don’t spend months or years trying to ‘break in’ and get your script produced.  Learn how to do it yourself and open the door to make any film you write no matter how big a project.

Directors:  Tired of running around trying to get a producer to have a look at your skills?  Produce your documentary, feature, or TV pilot and jump the queue.

And of course aspiring or beginning PRODUCERS:  Find out the real deal on what it’s like to create and bring a TV series to screen, a feature film, or documentary.

Each week we will also select a project from one student and show the ‘good and bad’ of how easy or difficult it can and will be to get it from idea to finished project.  The class will select and vote on the project and by the end of the course every genre and/or type of project will be examined.    You will be dealing in REALITY…. not THEORY.   Because what most film schools can’t and/or won’t teach you is what happens in the REAL WORLD.

Course curriculum:

We will cover the following above and beyond the abovementioned subjects and tactics.   This is not week-specific and certain areas will be lightly touched on and others explored in depth.  This course is to get you to walk out with the knowledge of ‘how to make it happen’ and with the skills to make it happen or hire others to fill in the gaps of your skills, knowledge ,  and desires.

  • FINANCING your project.  Where to get the money from micro budget to major motion picture.  Pitching and selling.
  • THE PROSPECTUS:  Creating a professional prospectus for investors and participants.  More pitching and selling.
  • DISTRIBUTION:  First doll, rates, territories, four walling, foreign and auxiliary.  Even MORE pitching and selling involved.
  • THE SCREENPLAY:  Acquisition of literary property, and checklists for commerciality or viability.
  • EQUIPMENT AND WORKING KNOWLEDGE OF THE PRODUCTION
  • THE PAPER AND COMPUTER END OF THE SHOOT (Legals, formats)
  • HOW ACTING FITS INTO THE PRODUCTION FOR VIABILITY AND COST
  • THE CASTING PROCESS
  • YOUR CREATIVE TEAM AND WHAT AND WHO YOU NEED
  • PRE PRODUCTION
  • PRODUCTION
  • POST PRODUCTION

This course is not for experienced producers who are already in the business.  This course is for those who want to jump-start their career and make it show BUSINESS…not show hobby or show fun…..   But when you are successful and making it happen it can be a dream come true and the fun is in the creating…not banging your head against wall!

If you think you’re ‘not ready’, or can’t afford the time or cost….then you’re not ready to be successful and you’re not committed to your career.     You’ve had your whole life up to this point to make it happen.  What’s stopping you now?

If you’re tired of being asked “when is your film or TV series going to happen” or “are you still trying out for parts” or “are you still trying to get that screenplay produced” then make an investment in the rest of your life from someone who has done that and wants to share his skills, secrets, and experience with you and wants you to succeed.
